Privacy Policy

ParlaViva (“ParlaViva”, “we”, “us”) is an AI-powered Italian conversation coach that helps people preparing to live in Italy practise spoken Italian. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the ParlaViva web app and marketing site.

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the coaching experience:

• Account information. When you sign in, we receive your email address. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your basic Google profile (name, email address, and profile picture). Authentication is handled by our provider, Supabase.
• Learner profile.Details you provide during onboarding, such as your name, the city or region of Italy you’re moving to, your goals, and your self-assessed level.
• Learning progress. Your practice sessions, conversation history with the coach, corrections, mistakes saved for review, and progress metrics.
• Voice audio. During a live voice session, your microphone audio is streamed to our voice provider to power the real-time conversation. We do not retain raw audio recordings on our own servers; we may keep the resulting text transcript as part of your learning progress.
• Device cache.We store your app state in your browser’s local storage so the app loads quickly and works between visits.

How we use your information

• To create and authenticate your account.
• To personalise lessons and coaching to your city, level, and goals.
• To generate conversational replies, corrections, and spoken audio.
• To save and sync your progress across your devices.
• To maintain, secure, and improve the service.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Google user data

If you choose “Continue with Google”, we access only your basic profile (name, email, and profile picture) for the sole purpose of creating and signing you into your ParlaViva account. ParlaViva’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not share Google user data with third parties except the service providers listed below who help us operate the app, and we never use it for advertising.

Service providers

We share data with a small number of processors strictly to operate ParlaViva. Each handles data on our behalf:

• Supabase — authentication and secure storage of your account, profile, and progress.
• Google — optional sign-in (OAuth), if you use it.
• Anthropic— the large language model that powers the coach’s replies and corrections. Conversation text is sent to generate responses.
• ElevenLabs and Inworld — text-to-speech and live voice. Text and, during live sessions, microphone audio are sent to produce spoken Italian.
• Vercel — hosting of the web app.

Data retention

We keep your account, profile, and progress for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete this data from our active systems within 30 days, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations. Locally cached data is removed when you sign out or clear your browser storage.

Deleting your data

You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing mikefiume13@gmail.comfrom the address on your account. We will confirm and complete the deletion within 30 days. You can also clear locally cached data by signing out and clearing your browser’s storage for the site.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with our providers using industry-standard safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

Children

ParlaViva is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.

International users

ParlaViva is operated with service providers that may process data in the United States and other countries. By using ParlaViva you consent to this processing in accordance with this policy.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice.
